COAST is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the stewardship and management of our oceans, estuaries, and coastlines using scientific research, education, and innovative technologies. COAST was founded in 2011 and is laying the foundation to emerge as a leader in the fields of marine science and coastal sustainability.
COAST is currently developing a number of scientific research projects in areas such as SW Florida on the Caloosahatchee and near Looe Key in the Florida Keys. Our science will make a difference because we will take that targeted research and will use it to effectively educate students in our educational programs and also to reach the scientists, resource managers, and policymakers that have the power to protect our critical coastal resources. As important marine and sustainability issues emerge, we are nimble enough as an organization to respond quickly and provide the education, research, or technological expertise that is needed.
COAST is unique because of our diverse expertise: Scientists who specialize in vital issues such as how coastal eutrophication impacts coral reefhealth, business owners who are committed to sustainable development and treating waste as a resource, and lawyers committed to consideringall sides of each issue and building consensus to reach sound conclusions based on scientific research. Together we have theknowledge and vision to effectively advance innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs that will balance environmental andeconomic concerns and enhance the vitality of our coasts and marine ecosystems.
